Exciting and varied

The Salzburg Open Air Museum, Gut Aiderbichl, the Salt Worlds of Bad Dürrnberg, Bad Ischl, Hoehenerfen Castle and Werfen Ice Giant World are only a few of the many destinations for trips in the surrounding area.

Salzburg Open Air Museum

The museum lies on the outskirts of Salzburg in the midst of a beautiful natural landscape. You will have a splendid trip on the museum's railway through the 50 hectare grounds. A network of well-maintained paths connect 100 original buildings from 6 centuries. Explore old farmhouses, be astonished at the simple and yet varied lives of earlier times.
Open from April to October/26 December to 6 January.

Aiderbichl Manor

A trip into Animal Paradise! This is a place in which man and beast alike feel right at ease. Do not be surprised if you meet a group of freely roaming Greek donkeys on your visit, or when a stag with a 30 point rack licks your hand. It could also be that Rosada and Negrita, the manor's very own mini-pigs, cross your path. The energy of this powerful place, the proximity to the rescued animals and their new found happiness will enchant you.
Open all year round.

Salt worlds - Bad Dürrnberg in Hallein

In the Salt Worlds you can learn a lot about the history of the Salzburger Land.
So-called "White Gold" was successfully traded in times gone by. This is how the City of Salzburg became a rich and splendid seat of power. Especially for children there are, for example, the funny treasure hunt with the Celtic boy Cleverix. With the mine railway there is a rapid descent into the mountain and then you go even deeper into the Salt Worlds on two long miners' slide. Further salt mines can be found in Hallstatt, Altaussee and Berchtesgaden. Open all year round.

Bad Ischl imperial town and spa

Bad Ischl - a charming small town and the cultural centre of the Salzkammergut with tradition and feel for the Zeitgeist. The town has a long history, mainly marked by the time as the summer residence of the imperial court. For 60 years Franz Josef came every year for its summer freshness and thus founded a tradition, evidence of which can still be seen today in many places. On a stroll through the town of culture you must not miss paying a visit to the Emperor's villa and the Zauner coffee house.

Hohenwerfen Living History Castle

For more than 900 years the mighty Hohenwerfen castle has been enthroned on its steep cone high above the Salzach valley. Today it is visitors that can storm and conquer the castle. In the mighty defensive installation there await you not only a grandiose mountain panorama but also an exciting guided tour through the medieval defences and the weapons display.
Tip: The impressive raptor displays given by the historic state falconry aviary!
Open all year round

World of the Ice Giants, Werfen

The World of the Ice Giants in Werfen in the Tennen mountains in the Salzburger Land, with its total length of around 42 kilometres, is regarded as the biggest ice cavern in the world. The guided tour lasts about 75 minutes. For the whole visit however one should allow at least three hours. During the course of the guided tour there are many steps and thus a fair few metres of ascent to negotiate. However you will be well compensated for your efforts with the sight of impressive ice figures. Don't forget warm clothing!
Open from 1 May until 26 October.
